Francis has suggested doing the Heritage Trail this coming Saturday as it is expected to be cooler.

Start from Francis and Michele's place (16 Mofflin Avenue, Darlington) at 7:30 am. [Please park on the street so that Michele and Francis's daughter can get their cars out.]
We'll ride down the track to Pechey Park then up the track North of Great Eastern Highway up to Sawyers Valley. This a fairly easy, steady climb. We'll cross the highway and return on the south side with a finish at Darlington for coffee / food.

We'll have a drink stop in Parkerville enroute.

Morning tea will be provided by Michele and Francis, with a contribution of $5.00 per person for tea or coffee, a pastry and some fruit (all the proceeds going to Life Cycle for CanTeen).

Bring your bathers and a towel so you can enjoy a dip in the heated pool!!

Please let Francis know the numbers, so Michele can do the purchases on Saturday morning.

February 16, 2013 - the "Mediocrity Ride"

Terrain: Mainly Flat
Estimated Distance: 50 kms+

Start Time: Maylands 7:00, Narrows 7:30

The "Mediocrity Ride" is scheduled again but don't confuse the fact we're doing this ride fairly often with it being popular!

Alan Perkins first introduced the "Mediocrity Ride" in April 2012. It was, well "ok" (according to half the group). Some said the ride was really good ...but that was thanks only to the weather. Others have said that the weather and the people made it ok. No one has attributed anything overly special to the actual route. Some said the ride was perhaps, "possibly repeatable". So we've decided to repeat it.

The "Mediocrity Ride" features ideas carefully pilfered from other people, and offers something to most. It is the ride rated "OK" by 5 out of 10 people! If you're excited about this ride ...DON'T BE ...you've missed the point!

Starting at Narrows - Southside, the "Mediocrity Ride" is a leisurely 50 km tour. The terrain is mainly flat with some gentle hills (ie "Ken friendly"); uses a mixture of cycle paths and roads, and intersperses faster stretches with slower, more technical sections.

Alan tells me that this time around he is thinking of re-routing the "Mediocrity Ride" to run it in the reverse direction. It will have a different coffee stop and everything: but don't worry - it'll still be really average!

Alan anticipates an 7:30 am start from the Narrows (South side), with the "over achievers" having the option of a 7:00 departure from Maylands.

Estimated Distance: 60 kms+

I propose to travel on the cycle path from Maylands to Bassendean, then through Guildford by the river. However this time we will come on the other side of the Guildford bridge to ride in some back streets of Guildford towards Hazelmere. Travel along Bushmead road, then Midland Rd to find Ridge Hill road. Yes there is a good hill there – apparently less painful than coming from the Helena Valley, and yes it will be hard for me.

Then Scott Street, Clayton Rd, to go under Gt Eastern Hwy to make our way though Swan View, to cycle a bit in the Swan Valley, via Toodyay Rd, Campersic Rd, then Lennard Street and Gt Northern Hwy for our coffee stop at the Coffee Hut.

Return trip via Barrett Street, to West Swan Rd, Benara Rd, Lord Street and finally join the cycle path in Bassendean to finish in Maylands.

Let’s call this ride the Two Valleys Ride. And a good training ride for Life Cycle for Canteen.
